Why is it socially acceptable to mispronounce words?

It drives me NUTS when I hear people mispronouncing words that are common knowledge that people pronounce wrong. Example: pronouncing "Nuclear" as Nook-yoo-ler. Is it people not giving a crap? Do they think most people say it that way so nobody will call them on it? Or do most not know it's wrong?

Which should I read first, Candide by Voltaire or Heart of Darkness by Joseph Conrad?

I bought these from Barnes and Noble cause they were on sale, which is better? I'm a 15 year old girl, by the way. I also got the Odyssey, Sherlock Holmes, Jane Eyre, and the Interpretation of Dreams by Sigmund Freud. I heard Heart of Darkness if really difficult to read/understand, is this true?

Am I able to apply for a job at Barnes and Noble?

I'm currently 15, but I hear that I can apply there a month before my birthday in November and start working as soon as my birthday hits. Is this true?

Can you track a Barnes & Noble giftcard?

So an online friend of mine gave me a B&N giftcard for my birthday a couple months ago. I have placed the money on my nook and onto my account, and have yet to use it, but I was wondering if they could find out where I lived? If I were to use the card online and purchase a book to be sent to me could they find me? Could I get somehow get in trouble for using it? Answers would be great, thank you! :D

Help Finding a Book?

When I was younger, My aunt had brought me along with her to a Barnes and Nobles store. I remember this one book that I really wanted but for some reason I wasn't able to get it that day. So like the stubborn child I was, I chose to hide it. And by hiding it I mean placing it in another section of books. The next day I returned to buy the book only to find it gone and also not in its original location Prior to me hiding it. I remember the book being small and square, it was a hard cover book. Black. And I believe it was poetry. But like dark humor poetry. I remember it had a lot to do about death and it oddly had a funny side to it. For example something about a small girl falling off a cliff and something about a bus full of children and something happening to them. I've been searching for this book forever and I can't seem to find it anywhere online or in stores.

Possible bed bugs, how to control them?

Last night I was lying down and saw a bug crawling across my pillow, it looked like a blood drop with legs. I found online it may have been a bedbug in stage 2. For the last couple of months I have had bites all up and down my arms. Really itchy bites. It only seems to be when I sleep with my arms down the side of my bed. I have searched around my bed for the signs, black specks, blood, bedbugs themselves. I haven't seen anything. I thought it could be biting gnats, or possibly my cat might have fleas. Or dust mites. I live in a tiny studio apartment so I don't exactly have the room to completely rearrange my house and check in every nook and cranny. My friend suggested we take EVERYTHING out of the house and search… I cannot do that, the only place I would have to store stuff temporarily would be in my car. And I have lots in my house. The last time I was getting bit up I took bug bombs and sprayed them around my bed and that stopped for a while. Is there anyway to see/control if I have bedbugs or if I am just getting them that could control them/kill them with out having to clean out my entire house? And washing EVERYTHING right now is not an option. I am lost as what to do.

How do book signings work? - 1

So I've never been to a book signing, I've never even seen on video or anything, but is it like, you buy the book there or do you just get the book for free…
Like do you just walk up to the table of the celebrity or do you have to stand back.

Its a Barnes and Nobles by the way if that helps

Like I just don't know, all help is appreciated

Will this be easy to get away with? (scamming barnes n nobles)?

so i bought a book from there which i only read like one page for research purposes and i was planning on returning it. But unfortunately i lent it to my dumb@ss f*ckwit friend and he accidentally tore the back of the cover like 1/4 of the way down. I glued it up but it's still slightly noticeable if you look at it. If i just walk into barnes and nobles and just switch the book with a new one and use that one to refund it with my receipt, what are the chances of me getting caught? Will they constantly be watching me as i walk in? I plan on looking as casual as possible btw. N the only reason I ask this because I don't know the level of barnes and nobles' security and just wondering how hard it's going to be. Btw im going to attempt this regardless of what anyone says, i'm not about to waste 30 dollars. So dont even bother trying to give me any moral guidance because i really honestly dont give a flying f*ck. N if i do get caught by an employee im just going to dip out of there.

Bed bugs or something else?

I recently found a spiderweb in the corner of my room behind my bed, with small, oval brown bugs in it. It didn't look like they had heads but they had stripes. They're definitely not fleas. I woke up with three bug bites the other day, but all were in completely different spots on my body and none in a row. I searched every nook and cranny on my bed and mattress and have no sign of any bug in the bed.

Does this sound like bed bugs? Seeing these little bugs seems like too big a coincidence when I woke up with the itchy bites but I assumed they were from a spider since they don't look like bed bug bites. Any advice is greatly appreciated as I'm freaking out over this.

Do they actually exist?

I'm 17 almost 18, I have a love for books and coffee.

You know those nook and cranny homely coffee and book shops that only seem to exist in books and films. Do they actually exist? I love the idea of sitting in a cozy coffee shop reading or writing a book or poetry (writing is a passion - it's my release) so is this something I will have to dream about or do those things actually exist? If they do, does anybody know any in Northampton UK?

Thanks in advance
Nix. :)
